The majority of grassy weeds found in urdbean during kharif season include Echinochloa colona, E. crusgalli. In India, production of pulses is around million tonnes (ESI 2015) with a very low average productivity of 764 kg/ha. Currently, total area under pulses is million ha. Their cultivation over poor, marginal and nutrient deficient soils, unfavourable weather conditions, unavailability of quality seeds, poor socio-economic conditions of the growers, and severe weed infestation especially during mansoon season, poor postharvest handling and inadequate market support are some major constraints in realizing the potential of available technologies for the pulse production . |
