This paper explores the nature of English as an International Language from the point of view of the fit between language forms and cultural pragmatics. Some language forms can have different culturalpragmatic roles for different speakers, and some cultural-pragmatic roles can be differently expressed by different speakers. Some cultural-pragmatic roles have no direct linguistic realization in some varieties of EIL. |
