Chickpea is one of the major pulse crops in Bihar. Its productivity (1000 kg/ha) in the state is significantly higher than the national average of 841 kg/ha. Despite of huge potential and the comparative advantage, the production of chickpea in the state has experienced a major setback, owing to a drastic decline in the area under the crop about 60% till 2011, to identify the problem and opportunity, the study revealed that the average productivity of improved variety of chickpea in adopted villages ranged between 950 kg ha-1 for improved varieties to 850 kg ha-1 for local varieties. |
