Casuarinas are among the most important tree species for the production of high yielding wood biomass for fibre, rayon and energy needs. Among the 96 species of trees and shrubs in the family Casuarinaceae, Casuarina equisetifolia has gained much attention due to its multiple end-uses. India is the largest Casuarina growing country in the world, with an estimated 800,000 ha of plantations.
