Gestational Diabetes has been defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with an onset, or first recognition during pregnancy (Beckmann et al., 2005). GDM affects between 2% to 5% of pregnant women. Increasing levels of plasma glucose are associated with birth weight above the 90th percentile, and primary caesarean deliveries and neonatal hyperglycemia. Risk factors for GDM include a history of macrosomia, strong family history of diabetes, and obesity. |
