The report Improving the efficiency of logistics sector for the improvement of business environment provides the governmental administration deeper information on the current status of the sector together with the recommendations for future improvement. The report describes the current status of Vietnam s logistics sector the situation of businesses in the sector the legal and regulatory framework on the administration and development of the sector in Vietnam the lessons learned on the administration and development of the sector in other countries and provides recommendations to stakeholders on the interventions needed for the improvement of the logistics sector of Vietnam. Vietnam s logistics sector is growing at a faster pace than gross domestic product GDP growth rate reaching about 16-20 percent at the scale of 20-22 billion per year. Vietnam has about 3 000 logistics companies of which approximately 1 300 actively participate in the market. The rate of outsourcing services is low accounting for only 35-40 percent. Vietnamese companies mainly provide inland logistics services such as inland transportation multimodal transport seaport services airport services warehousing services customs declaration inspection and clearance and loading and unloading goods. Vietnamese companies only comprise a small part of the logistics market approximately 25 percent. The major obstacle for the development of the sector in Vietnam is that logistics costs account for 18 percent of GDP nearly double that of the developed economies and 14 percent higher than the global average.
