In this paper mechanical properties of an artificial cohesive soil were investigated through a series of laboratory soil tests and a finite element method. The studied soil was a clayey soil consolidated from a slurry mixture under a final vertical consolidation pressure of 100 kPa. A series of soil tests including oedometer tests consolidated-undrained triaxial compression tests unconfined compression tests cone penetration tests and T-bar tests were conducted in order to obtain mechanical properties of the soil such as the strength parameters compressibility indices and permeability property the results from different testing methods are also compared and discussed. The soil parameters measured from the above-mentioned tests are then directly used for a soil constitutive model to simulate the soil element tests by a finite element method employed Plaxis 3D. The simulation results are compared with measurement ones to evaluate the applicability of the soil constitutive model to analyse and estimate other soil properties as well as soil behaviour under construction loads.
