In fact southern pediatric hospitals reported many cases of severe progressing pertussis requiring emergency hospitalization. This study aimed to determine the factors related to pertussis patients required emergency admissions. Methods A cross sectional retrospective study of children with pertussis confirmed by PCR at the Children s Hospital No. 2 was conducted over a period of 12 months January to December 2018 . The evaluating variables included epidemiological characteristics clinical symptoms and related tests. Logistic regression model was used to determine the variables associated with emergency hospitalization of pertussis cases. Results One hundred thirty-nine pertussis patients ranging from 17 days to 15 months of age were enrolled in the study and 15 8 of cases required emergency admission. Emergency admission group had prolonged duration of hospitalization 16 5 compared to 7 days and respiratory support 12 days compared to 2 days in comparison to the group without emergency admission.
