The active methanol extracts were successively partitioned with organic solvents such n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol to yield organic layers. Among of the resulting organic layers, n-hexane and ethyl acetate layers of the two plants displayed effective inhibition against various filamentous fungal and bacterial growth. Through bioassay guided isolation, 1,8 dihydroxy anthraquinones and their derivatives were isolated from those bioactive layers using silica gel, reverse phase and sephadex LH20 column chromatography. |
