Nowadays the orthotropic material is commonly used to reinforce the bridge structures as well as the car body shells because the strength and stiffness is high while the weight is small. In this paper we use phase field method to simulate the damage and crack propagation direction of this material through two types of epoxy resin-based materials containing parallel fiber reinforcement of carbon Carbon-epoxy and or glass Glass-epoxy . This material has only three axes of symmetry and orthogonality in which the material properties along the fiber axis are much stronger than the ones along the other two axes. The phase field method in this study is supplemented with some new points such as i an orientation tensor has been used to represent the damage development of the fiber direction in the material. This orientation tensor is added to the phase field method to predict the initiation and propagation of the crack in the aforementioned materials ii a form of strain tensor decomposition satisfying the orthogonal condition is applied into the simulation method to improve the accuracy of the material behaviour. Through several numerical examples the obtained results have been compared with the relevant experimental and analytical ones to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in predicting the damage of the orthotropic material.
