For Paper I, answers have to be filled in on a special mark sheet, which is checked by computer You can write your answers on the exam paper first if you like, but be sure to leave time to transfer them to the mark sheet | LANGUAGE MATTERS 6 Focus on Writing Review Paper 2 Part 2 TASK You have been asked to write a short film review for a school college magazine. Choose any film which you think might be of interest to your fellow students. The film can be in any language and it can be of any type comedy thriller science fiction romance historical drama etc. Your brief is to include a clear description of the story contents to comment on what you think the most successful and least successful features are and to give an overall recommendation. Write about 250 words. CONTENT 1 a Make a list of three or four possible films. They don t have to be new films though it is helpful if you have seen them recently and you don t have to have enjoyed them. Sometimes it s easier to pinpoint what you don t like about something than what you like b Work with one or two other students. Take it in turns to describe the films on your list and say what you like or dislike about them. This should help you decide which it will be easiest to talk about. Ask your colleagues which film they d be most interested to read about. ORGANISATION 2 a Having chosen a film to review look at the instructions again and underline the three parts of the task. b Read the notes on reviews in the Writing File pages 167-168 and study the example film review and Useful Language section. Highlight expressions and topic vocabulary that you might want to use. c Make notes for each of the main sections and when you re satisfied that you ve covered all the main points and given a balanced account of the film s strengths and weaknesses begin the final version. STYLE REGISTER 3 Look through all the example reviews in the Writing File and notice the slightly different styles. Think about the readers of your review age interests and try to speak directly to them. Make sure you start and finish in a clear memorable way. KEY STRUCTURES This is an opportunity to use relative and participle clauses structures which are typical of reviews.
