Now that you have practiced the essay question type which requires you to respond to what is called a “stand-alone” prompt, it is necessary to look at the question type which provides an actual document or documents to use in your answer. These are called “text-based” questions. These are a very different kind of question—easier in some ways because the information you need is provided for you, but difficult in other ways. For example, despite the fact that the information is in front of you, you have to be able to read it carefully and knowing what to look.
