Monday September 1 First day in a new Job I mean it s supposed to he such an important day in your life. And I ve looked forward to it . How long Well right through the accountancy course at college if not before. So Đay I the boss says he s got some bud news. The Gloucester branch is relocating up north. Some existing staff are going some aren t. Most aren t. Well cheers Mr ISradley. Then he tells me he tried to stop Head Office in London appointing me but it just went through before the decision was taken. Tuesday September 2 The atmosphere is really terrible. Nobody s doing any Work. There are union meetings. Everybody s talking about who it will be - who gets the chop and who stays. People are nice to me but I think that s because they think I ve had it. Last in first out and all that. The afternoon with Josie was nice though. She s supposed to be showing me the ropes but we were nattering the whole time about our past lives. Wednesday September 3 There have been some acts of vandalism. Somebody s blocked the toilets and the heating was Jammed on for a couple of hours. Uradley called Security and we ve got these private security guards in the toilets now. Great The first people got redundancy notices today. Nobody I know but then I hardly know anybody. I m fed up. I m going to ask Josie out for a drink. She can only say no. Thursday September 4 Things are looking up. Josie asked me for a drink Then she cancelled with loads of apologies but we re going tomorrow. I dont know if anybody else is going or not. She s a bit older than me. I think she s twenty-eight. I ve always liked older women I actually did some work today. Did a few spreadsheets on possible new business in accident insurance. Josie checked it which she didn t have to.
