This paper aims at discussing the role of women in potato producing households division among women and men in potato decsion making and the roles of potato prodcution in gender equity development. Findings shows that i more than one thrid are women-headed households. These households often had lower income than men-headed ones. 65- 86 of farming activities were dicided by women. Women played an important role in crop cultivation product use access to resources. This role is strengthened when women gained training ii Potato crop has contributed to gender equity in terms of job generation imporving income distribution nutrition and control over resources. Women and chidren are primary beneficiaries from potato production iii To enhance the efficieny of potato production extension programs should be designed to meet the needs of potato women rather than men. Training program should focus on imporving women s skills in seed management planting techniques crop management harvesting marketing and utilization. MỞ ĐẦU Khoai tây là cây thực phẩm quan trọng trong hệ thống cây luơng thực thực phẩm của Việt Nam đuợc trổng chủ yếu ở miền Bắc nuớc ta qua nhiều thập kỷ nay. Trong những năm gần đây diện tích và năng suất khoai tây có xu huớng tăng do nhu cầu của thị truờng và sự đổi mới của khoa học kỹ thuật trong sản xuất khoai tây. Tuy vậy từ năm 1976 đến nay năng suất khoai tây bình quân của cả nuớc chua vượt quá 12 tấn ha sản xuất khoai tây ở nước ta vần chưa đáp ứng nhu cầu ngày càng tăng của thị trường Đỗ Kim Chung 2001 . Đã có nhiều nghiên cứu về phương diện kỹ thuật và phương diện kinh tế -xã hội của sản xuất khoai tây
