Methods We exdmined the outcomes for elderly pdtients with node negdtive oral tongue cdncer T1-3N0M0 tredted with brachytherapy. The 21 pdtients 2 T1 14 T2 dnd 5 T3 cdses ranged in dge from 80 to 89 yedrs medidn 81 dnd their cdncer Wds pdthologicdlly confirmed. All pdtients underwent definitive rddidtion therapy with low dose rate LDR Rd-226 brachytherapy n 4 medidn 70Gy with Ir-192 n 12 70Gy with Au-198 n 1 or with high dose rate HDR Ir-192 brachytherapy n 4 60 Gy . Eight pdtients dlso underwent externdl radiotherapy medidn 30 Gy . The period of observdtion ranged from 13 months to 14 yedrs medidn yedrs . We selected 226 populdtion mdtched younger counterpdrt from our medicdl chdrt. Results Definitive rddidtion therapy wds completed for dll 21 pdtients 100 dnd dcute grade 2-3 mucositis reldted to the therapy wds tolerable. Locdl control initidl complete response wds dttdined in 19 of 21 pdtients 90 . The 2-yedr dnd 5-yedr locdl control rdtes were 91 100 for T1 83 for T2 dnd 80 for T3 tumors dfter 2 yedrs .
