Sun Services Revision Working With Mounting Basics Working With Mounting Basics In the Solaris OS you use the mounting process to attach individual file systems to their mount points on the directory hierarchy. This action makes a file system accessible to the system and to the users. You use the unmounting process to detach a file system from its mount point in the directory hierarchy. This action makes a file system unavailable to the system or users. After you have created a file system by using the newfs command you must attach it to the Solaris OS directory hierarchy at a mount point. A mount point is a directory that is the point of connection for a file system. File systems are commonly referred to by the names of their mount points for example the root file system or the usr file system. 5-2 Intermediate System Administration forthe Solaris 10 Operating System Copyright 2005 Sun Microsystems Inc.
