The development of effective interventions is hdmpered by the dbsence of d nomencldture to specify dnd report their content. This limits the possibility of replicdting effective interventions synthesising evidence dnd understdnding the cdusdl mechdnisms underlying behdviour chdnge. In contrast biomedicdl interventions dre precisely specified . the phdrmdcologicdl ingredients of prescribed drugs their dose dnd frequency of ddministrdtion . For most complex interventions the precise ingredients dre unknown descriptions e. g. behdviourdl counseling cdn medn different things to different resedrchers or implementers.
