Making thin stock with a band saw, planer, and hopefully a jointer is easier and more precise than using the table saw procedure described above, and it allows you to work with widths that are greater than twice the height of your table saw blade. If you are lucky enough to have these machines, here is where you can really put to use the machining capabilities they have- and make you feel that the investment was worthwhile. Note that many smaller band saws are only capable of cutting a maximum height of 6". This is not much more than twice.
