Conceptually, the grid consists of a number of connected sites which offer resources to remote users across the internet. The resources offered by a site (resource-provider) are exposed through interfaces implemented by a number of software grid-services executing on computers on the site network (grid-service nodes). Grid-services, as well as offering functionality directly to users, also serve peer services resulting in a complex web of network interdependencies. The location and characteristics of services and offered resources are registered in an information system, itself implemented by a number of service nodes across the grid.
