Some organizations may use outside consultants to collect information or review executive performance. Keep in mind that evaluating the executive is like running an EKG on the heart of the organization: you will not get any closer to the pulse of the organization. If you use an external service, it should be as a contributing part of the overall effort. And, whether the in-person evaluation is presented by a com- mittee, a board officer, or the entire board, the final evaluation must be the voice of the entire board.
