Rice is the major crop cultivated during kharif in eastern region of India, particularly in Odisha. Inconsistent and erratic behaviour of monsoon, high input costs and low market price at farm gate for rice is becoming unremunerative at times. Crop diversification with high potential crops seems to be a viable solution for the above situations.
