Haemophilus influenzae is strictly a human pathogen, responsible for many diseases like community acquired pneumonia, meningitis, sinusitis, epiglottitis and otitis media. Haemophilus type b (Hib) was the most common strain responsible for all the infections. Non type b strains were at an emerging risk. Ampicillin was commonly used but resistance due to TEM-1gene is being reported. It is aimed to find out whether Hib continues to be isolated from childhood cases of pneumonia and its susceptibility to the drugs of choice and possible mechanisms of resistance. | Haemophilus influenzae in community acquired infections
