As well as pioneering a new, broader definition of environmental goods and services, this report has expanded the scope of analysis to include activities within the broader environmental supply chain as well as activities across the full environmental value chain ‐ including R&D, design and development, installation, manufacturing, supply, distribution, retail, maintenance, operations, consultancy and support services. This inclusion is similar to the way other sectors of the economy, such as aerospace, are measured. The report includes an assessment of the potential impact of growth in particular LCEGS products and activities on the manufacturing base. The definition we have used includes manufacturing, processing, fabrication, construction and the related sales and marketing activities. (Supply, distribution and maintenance are classed as service or pre‐production research and development and prototyping. These are separated out at Level 5.) This focus on manufacturing also naturally provides information on the economic impact of the service sector, allowing comparisons between the different sub‐sectors regarding their manufacturing and service activities. .
