There are four main issues 1. The main flanking path is consistently from the floor of one room to the floor of the other if the subfloor is a layer of oriented strand board OSB or of plywood directly fastened to the top of the floor joists. 2. Reduction of Apparent-STC by flanking is mainly due to the continuity of floor components across the floor wall junction. 3. Changes in the orientation of the floor joists or the details of the floor wall junction can significantly alter the flanking transmission. 4. In the worst cases the flanking transmission can be much stronger than direct transmission through the nominally separating wall so that improvements to the separating wall and or sidewalls have negligible effect on the Apparent-STC.
