As such globalization has economic social technological cultural and political dimensions. In this paper we focus on the consequences of globalization for sustainable human development in LDCs.2 Three criteria are used by the United Nations to assess whether a country is classified as an LDC low income weak human assets and economic vulnerability.3 There are currently 50 countries classified as LDCs of which 31 are landlocked LDCs and 12 are Small Island Developing States SIDS .4 LDCs contributed 0.69 percent of global output in 2005 even though they accounted for almost 12 percent of the world s population.5 While it is difficult to construct an accurate picture of poverty and human development trends in the group of LDCs as a whole due to a lack of systematic and comparable data United Nations Conference on Trade and 1.
