This textbook provides an accessible yet rigorous treatment of environmental and natural resource economics, as well as the emerging subject of sustainability and sustainable development. This third edition is built on the foundation of more than ten years of classroom experience working with and learning from thousands of students at Humboldt State University and other institutions. These include undergraduate majors in business, economics, environmental science, forestry, natural resources planning, and master’s degree students from the environment and community, environmental systems, and natural resource graduate programs. Many of the noneconomists I have taught have little in the way of prior training in economics, and approach the topics covered in this textbook.
