The important physico-chemical parameters of water such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, total alkalinity, total dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, Biological oxygen demand, nitrate-nitrogen, ammonia-nitrogen, phosphate-phosphorous and soil quality parameters such as pH and organic carbon were studied in Nalban wetland in triplicate by standard methods. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to test the significant differences, if any, in the mean values of physcio-chemical parameters of water and sediment among months and sampling sites after confirmation of normality and homogeneity of variance (Zar, 1999). Tukey (HSD) test (Tukey, 1977) was used to evaluate pair-wise multiple comparisons. The difference was considered statistically significant at P ≤ . All statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS statistical software. All physico-chemical parameters were found to be within the tolerable limits of fishes that inhabit the wetland. | Physico-chemical characteristics of Nalban wetland of east Kolkata wetlands, a Ramsar site, West Bengal, India
