Thực trạng về trình độ tiếng Anh tổng quát của sinh viên năm nhất không chuyên ngữ trường ĐH Sư phạm Tp. HCM

Hàng năm, có khoảng 2000 sinh viên (SV) năm nhất các khoa không chuyên ngữ chọn học ngoại ngữ Anh tại trường ĐH Sư phạm TP. HCM (ĐHSP ). Số lượng SV rất lớn khiến cho nhiệm vụ giảng dạy và đánh giá của Tổ Ngoại ngữ gặp nhiều khó khăn. Bài viết cũng đưa ra những đề xuất trong việc đào tạo và đánh giá tiếng Anh tổng quát tại trường ĐHSP TP. Hồ Thị Phƣợng Nguyen Thi Tuyet Phuong has been working as a lecturer of English at Ho Chi Minh University of Education for more than five years. She received an MA in Applied Linguistics from The University of Melbourne in 2009. She is now a doctoral student in Applied Linguistics and Technology at Iowa State University. Her research interest includes Language Testing Technology in Language Learning and Teaching and Task-based Language Learning. Hồ Thị Phƣợng is currently working as a senior lecturer of English at Ho Chi Minh University of Education. She received an MA in Comparative Linguistics from HCM Social Sciences and Humanities. She is engaged in research on Language Testing and Comparative Linguistics. Ly Nhut Thien is now a lecturer of English at Ho Chi Minh University of Education. He received MA in TESOL from The University of Canberra. He is engaged in doing research on Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics. Abstract The annual undergraduate intake at Ho Chi Minh University of Education is over 3 000 students nearly 2 000 of who enroll for English as a foreign language courses. With the University s planning to improve its students English proficiency level to meet the standards set in the Project of Teaching and learning foreign languages in the national educational system 2008-2020 Project 2020 by the Ministry of Education and Training and the hope to gain more information on English proficiency levels of first-year nonmajors the English Unit researchers administered an English proficiency test in Semester 1 academic year 2012- 2013. The test employed the listening and reading materials from the Prelimilary English Test 325 T h e 2 0 1 3 c o n f e r e n c e I n n o v a t i o n i n t e a c h i n g a n d l e a r n i n g E S P PET which is equivalent to level B1 of the Common European .
