Background purpose The aim of this study was to examine the feasibility safety and short-term outcome of complete one-stage repair of high and intermediate anorectal malformation by posterior sagittal anorectoplasty PSARP procedure in newborn. Methods 40 patients were admitted who required performing posterior sagittal anorectoplasty without colostomy from 1 2006 to 12 2006. We recorded the data of patients as following - Gestation age birthweigh - Associated anomalies - Classification of malformation - Operating time - Oral feeding time - Postoperative complications wound infection dehiscence part of the wound anal stricture and soiling. Results There were 40 patients consist of 28 boys 12 girls Gestation age pre-term llcases full-term 29 Birthweigh mean 2770g 1800-3500g . Associated anomalies Down s syndrome 7cases 5 of all have congenital heart disaese oesophageal atresia 1 case congenital heart disease without Down s 8 cases hypospadias 2 cases Coccyx agenesis 6 cases. Classifications 21 cases high anorectal malformation 12 cases with fistula and 9 cases without fistula 19 cases intermediate anorectal malformation 13 cases with fistula and 6 cases without fistula . Operating time from 40 to 70 minutes. Postoperation all of patients were fed 24 hours after. Complications wound infection 9 cases 1 must be colostomy rectal mucosal prolapse 2 cases no case recurrent urethral fistula and without mortality. 1 Conclusions The 1-stage PSARP procedure in the neonate involves fewer short-term complications. Complete 1-stage repair using the PSARP to treate high and intermediate-type anorectal malformations is safe and feasible. I.
