Progressive increase in urban area, more particularly with construction of buildings is reducing the availability of land for agriculture. The demand for food is also rapidly increasing with increase in population. Hence, it is difficult to feed the growing population with limiting land resources. In that context, there is ample scope for rooftop cultivation to solve the problem of land shortage for agricultural production. Proper irrigation scheduling for crops grown on rooftops is yet to be established. Irrigation scheduling is only possible by knowing the actual crop evapotranspiration.
